Dr. André Van Zyl – Okotoks Westmount / High River
André was born in Windhoek, Namibia and moved to Canada to practice medicine as a full scope family physician roughly 20 years ago. His interest in becoming a doctor grabbed him at a young age, as he spent the first five years of his life in and out of hospitals, around doctors and nurses – his longest stay was four months. André completed his medical training in Stellenbosch, South Africa and did his family residency in his hometown of Windhoek. What he loves most about his job is what he calls “the circle of life” – with reciprocal respect and understanding between patient and physician, the reward of walking a journey together is priceless.
In his free time away from the office André enjoys motorcycles, rugby, braai (South African for BBQ), extreme adventure holidays, the outdoors and the beauty of Alberta’s wide open foothills. Fun fact about him is he’s of Dutch decent, and his last name, Van Zyl is pronounced “Fun Sale”. André has an interest in chronic and complex disease management, First Nation’s health, wound care, minor surgeries, therapeutic injections, maternity care (In High River), early childhood care, emergency medicine (UCC and High River), anesthesia and health politics.Register as New Patient
