Dr. Jo Sewell – Okotoks Southbank

Accepting new patients

As a GP I enjoy getting to know my patient’s and their family. I believe that treating a patient as a whole person enables a better understanding of their health, and is important in both diagnosing their condition and in delivering excellent care.

I have an interest in positive lifestyle medicine, women’s health, paediatrics and sexual health. I have recently been very active in promoting positive health attitudes with patients and, helping implement changes to their lifestyles which can reduce risk to conditions such as type 2 diabetes and hypertension, in some cases reversing the disease process. I am looking forward to continuing this work in Okotoks.

Although initially raised in the UK I moved around a lot as a child and undertook the majority of my education in Canada initially, in Edmonton and then Sarnia, Ontario. I studied as a physiotherapist in the UK and worked both in England and New Zealand before embarking on a career in Medicine. I did all of my medical and GP training in Bristol, England.

When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my family, watching my boys play football and other sports, enjoying family bike rides and walking our family dog Murphy, a ‘crazy’ Irish Setter. I also enjoy running and skiing and have recently participated in my first sprint triathlon with my husband and am tempted to do more if the opportunities arise. I look forward to continuing these activities whilst living in Okotoks.
